Almost 5 months ago, our dream wedding came to life! Let me back track a bit… Omar asked me to be his wife on Christmas Eve 2016. It is no surprise I cried, but they were definitely happy tears! Haha. The day after, we started thinking about the wedding date and location. A small, intimate wedding is what we both wanted with only our parents and siblings present. We looked at different locations in Vegas, but we really wanted a destination wedding so we chose the island of MAUI!
Omar’s dream vacation growing up was Hawaii, and I have been wanting to go back, so we paid our wedding planner the deposit and began to plan our beach wedding. When we told our family about it, they were all on board. YAY! So, 8 months later we said our “I DO’s” on the beautiful beach – Makena Cove! I will never forget the biggest smile I saw on Omar’s face when he saw me walking down the “aisle” (in this case, the sand) and how shaky he was when we were holding hands throughout the ceremony! Off to the side were our loved ones who watched us become husband and wife! ♥
“You may seal your love with a big, aloha kiss,” said our officiant and we did not hesitate! We held each other tight and cried. We couldn’t believe everything we had planned for in 8 months turned out to be everything we wanted! Our wedding planners were great and made everything possible to ensure we got what we dreamed of.
For the reception, the reservations were made at Gannon’s and we enjoyed delicious meals and I had one of the best steaks I have ever tasted! We did not have a huge party, but with our loved ones there to share our special day with, it was a perfect ceremony and dinner. Omar and I did not want the day to end, but everything good always has an ending, right? Fortunately, for us that was not the last of Maui we were going to see.
Our parents and siblings had a few more days with us after our wedding and we made the most out of it. We squeezed in all the beach time we could (sunburns were inevitable haha), drove The Road to Hana to get to know the island, and tried new restaurants as well. After everyone else was gone, we had two weeks left and a whole island to explore. We hiked a lot, spent more time on the beach, I had a lot of Lava Flows (my faaaavee!), we went beer tasting, attended a luau, met so many friendly people, learned about the culture, and ate at plenty of different restaurants. Our honeymoon was everything we hoped for and so much more!!
3 weeks in Maui sounds like a long time, but up to this day we still think time went by too fast. Omar and I are already dreaming of our next getaway to the Hawaiian islands!
